Upcoming Mailman mailing list changes

March 29, 2022 by Stacey, Craig

What we’re doing: Changing mailman configs to use a "From:" header of the listname rather than the sender. This change will happen on all mailing lists hosted by CELS Systems. We will also make that setting the default for any new list created.
When we are doing it: Monday, October 29, between 3 and 5 PM.
Why we are doing it: To prevent bounced/undelivered messages to mailing list members due to heightened spam/scam prevention methods being deployed at more and more sites on the internet.
What it means to you: If you manage a mailing list and you explicitly do not want this setting made, you can let us know by mailing help(at)cels.anl.gov requesting we not make that change on your list. Also, you can change the setting yourself on the General Options page of the list under "from_is_list".
See https://mcssys.wordpress.com/2018/10/19/dmarc-and-you-with-bonus-story-on-mailing-lists/ for more background on this and why we’re making this change.
Thank you. —
Craig
