Service outages upcoming next week: accounts.cels.anl.gov and compute003.mcs.anl.gov/compute005.mcs.anl.gov
Hi, everyone. Just a quick and simple note to inform you of two service outages coming up next week.
On Monday, 5/18 we are performing a major upgrade to accounts.cels.anl.gov. This is providing some bug fixes, but is also bringing LCRC accounts into the fold. There’s a lot of data to import, so it’s going to take some time. We expect the system to be unavailable for most of the day, beginning at 9 AM. During this time, you will not be able to request or manage resources in GCE, but it will not affect your ability to login to and use the resources you already have access to. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out virtualhelpdesk.cels.anl.gov/docs/linux/ for details on GCE if you’re not already up to speed.
On Thursday, 5/21, the linux servers compute003.mcs.anl.gov and compute005.mcs.anl.gov will be turned off. We will be erasing them, and rebuilding them to be new compute nodes in GCE. The only local data stored on these should be in /sandbox (which is to be treated as temporary storage and is not backed up anywhere). Please make sure there’s no data in there that you’re concerned about, and if there is, move it to your networked home directory. Nobody has any crontabs on those nodes right now, so I’ve preemptively disabled the ability to create new ones.
If you’ve got any questions or concerns, drop us a note at [email protected] and we’ll take care of you. Thanks a bunch, and stay safe!
