CELS Maintenance Weekend, August 14-16

Hey everyone. In building the General Compute Environment (GCE), one of the tenets we held to is keeping it up to date and secure. Part of accomplishing this necessitates some outage windows to apply needed patches and updates in cases where we do not have a method for doing them live. We are planning to do these quarterly, and due to the fact we often need to rely on BIS-provided services we cannot have them happen on the same weekend as BIS maintenance weekends.
We are planning the first official GCE maintenance weekend on August 14-16. We’re still working out the exact details and specific outage windows, but I wanted to get this announcement out there in case there are any show-stoppers and we need to reschedule. We will send a more detailed announcement closer to the date with the specific windows for the affected services.
When systems might be inaccessible: Various windows between 5PM on Friday August 14 and 8PM on Sunday August 16.
Which systems will be affected:
* GCE MySQL servers and their supported services (JLSE Confluence, wordpress.cels.anl.gov) * GCE Fileservers and their supported computers (GCE workstations, compute nodes, login nodes)
To be clear, we are still working out the duration of the outage windows for these services. What we’re announcing right now is they’re scheduled to occur in the timeframe above. Please let us know if there are any events or situations that would require us to move this window.
