Changes in printing to 240 copiers coming Dec 11.
Hi again, everyone!
This notice is of particular interest to the folks who work in building 240 (or will do so again once this whole thing is in the past).
On Friday morning, Dec 11, BIS will begin converting the CELS Canon printer/copiers to BIS management. You’ll get a separate notice from them about this, but the following things will change:
1) The names of the printers will change. We’ll update our docs at virtualhelpdesk.cels.anl.gov with the new info, and the announcement from BIS will include this information as well. 2) You will need to remove and re-add the renamed Canons to your computer if you’re using a Mac or a self-managed Windows computer. Linux computer users, see below. BIS will include instructions on this, and we’ll add it to our docs at virtualhelpdesk.cels.anl.gov as well. 3) The affected printers will be unavailable for various portions of the day on Friday, Dec 11 for all users. The Linux print spools will not be ready until after the weekend. 4) We will work to keep the print queues on the Linux print server unaffected, but if we need to make changes, we’ll let you know.
If you need to print something during this work, please use Secure Print by emailing a PDF to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> then retrieving it from one of the unaffected printers.
After this work is complete, we’ll have a unified and consistent printer management and usage model throughout the building, as well as being consistent with the rest of the lab.
I’ll send a followup later this week with a pointer to detailed instructions on what you’ll need to do after Friday, but I wanted to get this notice out sooner rather than later in case there was some pressing need for us to postpone this work.
Thanks!
