Maintenance Weekend this weekend, Town Hall slides, next town hall
Hi, everyone. Trying to keep the announcement emails to a minimum, so here’s a twofer.
Maintenance Weekend Feb 19-21
As previously announced, we’ll be performing some disruptive maintenance this weekend, which means there are some aspects of the environment that will be unavailable for various portions of the weekend. We’ve got other updates we are performing as well, but we don’t expect those to be disruptive. Nevertheless, until you see an all clear, you should presume any outage is known and being worked on. That all clear will be sent to this list, as well as posted on the blog and twitter.
Saturday, Feb 20:
- WordPress (wordpress.cels.anl.gov): 8AM – 9AM
- Confluence (collab.cels.anl.gov): 8AM – 11AM
- Jira (jira.cels.anl.gov): 11AM – 4PM
- GCE and Legacy linux systems: noon – 5PM.
- In this window, the file servers for both Legacy and GCE will be updated. We will also be patching and rebooting all GCE user nodes (homes, compute, workstations, etc), and Ubuntu 16.04 nodes in Legacy (login/compute). Legacy computing will be offline until the file servers are back. GCE login nodes will only briefly be offline for patching, since they do not mount homedirs, which means you will be able to proxy through them to nodes on the back-end. But note if those targeted nodes are affected above, they won’t be accessible.
Sunday, Feb 21:
No work planned on this day, but if issues arise from Saturday’s work we may need to extend to this window.
GCE Town Halls
The recording and slides for last Tuesday’s Town hall can be found in the 2021 folder of anl.box.com/v/StaceTalksANL.
The next town hall is this Friday, Feb 19 at 1PM. See virtualhelpdesk.cels.anl.gov/2021/01/20/weekly-cels-systems-town-halls/ for details on the series. This week’s topic will be a walkthrough of managing your account and projects, as well as setting up SSH for connecting to GCE or Legacy through GCE login nodes. This would be a good thing to get set up, because while the legacy environment will be up for some time still, the front-end login nodes will be end of life in the spring and won’t be able to have external exposure. I’ll post a link to the BlueJeans session in #announcements on cels-anl.slack.com.
