Announcing GCE Confluence services

March 29, 2022 by Stacey, Craig

Hi, everyone. I’m in the process of writing a bigger update and newsletter, but wanted to announce this separately since it’s significant and shouldn’t wait until I wordsmith the newsletter into existence.

We have a new confluence server! confluence.cels.anl.gov is up in GCE and ready for your use.  It uses your GCE/Argonne account (unlike the old server at collab.cels.anl.gov).  You can login now and create new spaces, and all the plugins we had for collab are on the new site. We’ve also set up a form at help.cels.anl.gov (aka Virtual Help desk, but easier to remember) for requesting a migration of your existing confluence space to the new server. Note: make sure your external collaborators have GCE accounts before requesting the migration, otherwise they won’t be able to login.

This Friday the CELS Systems Town Hall will focus on the new confluence service, but you’re always free to ask questions about other aspects of GCE or any CELS Systems service and we’ll do our best to help. This week’s is at 1PM on Friday April 16th at 1PM and is hosted on Teams. The information to join the meeting is at virtualhelpdesk.cels.anl.gov/2021/01/20/weekly-cels-systems-town-halls/ (which also has info on further Town Halls). I’ll also post a link in #announcements on Slack on Friday. The URL is rather ugly, so I’ll include it at the end of this message.

To make sure we don’t accumulate more state on the old server (which now has a ticking clock), as of Friday, April 16, you will no longer be able to manually create a new space on the old server and will need to send a ticket if you would rather not create it on the new server. However, we will ask you why, since the old server will be retired as it’s using an account system that’s reached end of life and will be retired. We haven’t set a retirement date for the old server as of now, but the goal for all of legacy is before end of Calendar Year 2021, so you at least have a long-term window to consider.
